Socio-Economically Disadvantage Groups Cell (SEDG)

The primary objective of SEDG cell is to ensure equitable access to quality higher education and foster an inclusive campus environment for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Key functions include providing academic and financial support, offering career guidance and skill-building programs, creating safe and inclusive spaces, and implementing government policies and welfare schemes to promote social mobility. The cell also serves as a grievance redressal mechanism for discrimination and inequities, and raises awareness among faculty and staff about the challenges faced by SEDG students. 

Objectives and Functions of the SEDG Cell

Equitable Access to Education:

The cell works to bridge socio-economic gaps by implementing initiatives such as bridge courses, outreach programs, and flexible admission criteria. 

Financial Assistance:

It facilitates access to scholarships, grants, fee concessions, and other forms of financial aid for economically weaker students. 

Academic Support:

The cell provides academic mentoring, tutoring, remedial, and bridge courses to help students overcome challenges and succeed in their studies. 

Skill Development and Career Guidance:

It organizes workshops, skill-building programs, career counseling, and employability enhancement initiatives to prepare students for the job market. 

Inclusive and Safe Environment:

The cell aims to create a campus culture where SEDG students feel respected, welcome, and free from discrimination. 

Policy Implementation:

It works to implement government policies, including reservation policies and welfare schemes, to benefit socio-economically disadvantaged groups. 

Awareness and Sensitization:

The cell conducts workshops and seminars to educate the university community about the challenges faced by SEDG students and promote inclusivity. 

Grievance Redressal:

It provides a mechanism to address complaints of discrimination or inequitable treatment faced by members of the SEDG. 

Social Mobility:

A core goal is to empower SEDG students to improve their socio-economic standing through education and support

Key Activities

  1. Organizing Orientation Programsfor SEDG students.
  2. Liaisoning with Government Bodiesfor scholarships and welfare schemes.
  3. Career Counseling & Skill Developmenttailored to the needs of marginalized groups.
  4. Community Outreach Programsto connect with and uplift surrounding disadvantaged communities.
  5. Conducting Researchon socio-economic disparities and institutional inclusivity.

A committee has been formed to look after and manage the SEDG students for their development and uplift of social and financial status by proper planning.
